Microbiology Fellowship - CDC
Description:
A research opportunity is currently available within the Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch (MVPDB), Division of Bacterial Diseases (DBD), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD). The mission of the DBD is to prevent and control illness and death from vaccine-preventable and other respiratory bacterial diseases, in the U.S. and worldwide, through excellence in epidemiologic and laboratory science. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will learn how to measure population level immunity to Diphtheria by measuring the functional activity of antibodies to neutralize Diphtheria toxin. The participant will have the opportunity to learn manipulation and management of various cell cultures and perform cell based toxin neutralization assays with various bacterial toxins such as Diphtheria or Pertussis toxin.
