The PHI/CDC Global Health Fellowship Program is a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded program that offers recent global public health graduates from Council on Education in Public Health accredited schools and programs the exciting opportunity to participate in fellowships with guidance from leading global health experts from the CDC.
Fellowships are yearlong placements within CDC offices working across six technical tracks. Fellows may have the opportunity to extend or apply to a new fellowship, but may not exceed three years maximum as a fellow. - Full time, 6 – 12 month placements within CDC offices worldwide
- Fellows are placed in CDC offices in Atlanta and country offices around the world. Applicants will have the opportunity to choose a preference of a domestic or international placement, though availability of specific placements is not guaranteed. Look below for examples of where to find our fellows!
- Length of fellowship placement may vary by opportunity
- Fellows may renew or apply for other fellowships but may not exceed three years maximum as a fellow.
- Fellows are contractors with the Public Health Institute.
- While our fellows work closely with CDC employees and other government staff, they are not employed by the CDC.
- Prior to joining the fellowship, incoming fellows will be issued fellowship agreements detailing policies and expectations for the fellowship year.

- Fellow Financials
- Fellows receive a stipend allowance. Stipends for fellowship placements are based on Atlanta’s GS payscale – GS-8 Step 1 (MPH) and GS-9 Step 1 (PhD in PH).
- In addition to stipends, fellows are provided predetermined allowances in the following categories: housing, local travel, travel/training and health. Amounts vary based on fellowship location and scope of work. Actual amounts are shared upon offer of fellowship placement.
- Domestic-based fellows are responsible for their own relocation expenses
- Overseas-based fellows receive a one-time shipping allowance
- Fellows are responsible for obtaining adequate medical coverage. The health allowance provided is meant to offset this cost. Proof of medical coverage is required before beginning the fellowship placement.
- MPH or PhD in Public Health from a CEPH accredited school or program required. Not sure if your school or program is accredited? Find out here.
- Recent graduates must have received their MPH or PhD in Public Health prior to the beginning of the fellowship (no later than June 2020) or within the last five years (no earlier than September 2015).
- U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and authorized to work in the U.S.
