Human Subjects Research Assistant

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) is a nationally renowned program that produces innovative solutions to Veteran and national healthcare problems through multi-site research studies.

The Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC), is hiring a full-time Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will support the Service and Health Among Deployed Veterans Study (SHADE Study, CSP #595), a multi-site observational study. The aim of the study is to characterize the impact of deployment-related pollution exposures during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND) on current respiratory health.

The Research Assistant will provide operational support under the direction of the SHADE Study Program Manager.

Key duties:

• Serve as liaison with investigators, site personnel, consultants, and contractors
• Assist with development and implementation of standard operating procedures and study materials
• Assist with maintenance of study databases and files, including data entry and data management
• Assist with preparation and tracking of IRB submissions and other regulatory documents
• Conduct quality assurance/quality control procedures, including consent form audits and data reconciliation
• Monitor subject recruitment and data collection activities and prepare reports and presentations
• Coordinate and facilitate local and national meetings and trainings
• Track progress and productivity of studies and projects

Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree in a scientific- or health-related field
• 1-2 years of work experience in clinical, epidemiological, or health services research
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of researchers and staff
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Solid problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
• Experience with Access, SharePoint, and REDCap preferred

The Seattle ERIC is a research center within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System that works to improve the health and care of Veterans through epidemiologic research. We are part of the VA CSP, a national VA research group of 12 epidemiology and clinical trial research centers.
