The Whatcom County Health Department is seeking an experienced professional to join their Health Information and Assessment Division. The Epidemiology Specialist provides epidemiological expertise to Health Department staff and community partners for investigation of communicable disease infections and outbreaks, chronic health conditions and environmental and occupational disease transmission. 

Key duties include:

  • Plans and conducts epidemiological investigations to address public health problems and to inform program planning and the development of health policy.  Applies epidemiological principles and basic research methods drawing appropriate inferences from quantitative and qualitative data to investigate patterns and causes of disease and injury in the population.  Provides evaluation findings.
  • Plans and participates in the development of epidemiologic investigations. Investigates the causes and spread of infectious diseases to develop methods for detecting, containing, and preventing future outbreaks. 
  • Participates in or provides consultation to statewide and community groups, committees and coalitions, develops community health indicators, and prepares information for release and presentation for reporting purposes and to the public and news media.
  • Creates, interprets, and communicates complex data analysis for various audiences.
