Description:

Public Health Institute (PHI) is organizing teams of community contact notification staff across the Pacific Northwest as a key strategy for preventing further spread of COVID-19.

The Bilingual Contact Tracer will work with people who have been newly diagnosed with COVID-19 to help them recall everyone with whom they have had close contact during the timeframe while they may have been infectious and contact those individuals to let them know of their potential exposure. Bilingual Contact Tracer will be provided scripts to follow and must comply with policies and procedures provided by PHI and comply with Human Subjects training regarding confidential information related to personal information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in PHI training to learn procedures for contact notifications and scripts to follow.
  • Follow scripts when communicating with cases (people newly diagnosed with COVID-19) and contacts (people who have been in close contact with cases).
  • Call cases to provide support and gather information.
  • Help cases recall everyone with whom they have had close contact during the time-frame while they may have been infectious.
  • Call contacts of cases to discuss potential exposure and provide education.
  • Communicate with cases and contacts in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Collect and record information on symptoms into a Client Resource Management platform CRM.
  • Provide cases and contacts with information about how to separate themselves from others who are not exposed, how to monitor themselves for illness, and if appropriate, refer them to testing according to procedures or to a Resource Coordinator for additional resources.
  • Monitor each person daily for the duration of their isolation or quarantine period.
  • Maintain contact with the supervisor.
  • Work independently, yet as part of a team to ensure that all cases and contacts are reached in a timely manner.
  • Conduct other related duties as assigned.
Skills/Eligibility:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in an effective and empathetic manner.
  • Fluency in a second language or in multiple languages required, with a preference for Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Marshallese, Chuukese, and Arabic. Please indicate the languages spoken in your application and/or cover letter.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Good critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record information.
  • Proficiency with computer software and ability to learn how to use a CRM.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in clinical medicine, public health, or community health a plus.
  • Prior experience in contact tracing.
