Description:

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as the chief medical officer for Walla Walla County. Enforce applicable health statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and ordinances. Maintains sound medical practices, directs medical operations to assure optimal public health/preventive services and assists with controlling costs. Performs applicable duties in part as delineated in RCW 70.05.070 The public health officer shall be an experienced physician licensed to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery in this state and who is qualified or provisionally qualified in accordance with the standards prescribed in RCW 70.05.051 through 70.05.055 to hold the office of local health officer. Working Conditions: The Health Officer is not required to work onsite. Work is in office or clinic setting and at a variety of other locations throughout the community. Is on call and may work outside of normal hours and on weekends. May be exposed to a variety of environmental or chemical allergens. Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) when required to meet universal health precaution requirements. Follows established work safety policies, practices, and procedures.

Skills/Eligibility:

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a licensed practicing physician OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities as prescribed in RCW 70.05.051. A Master of Public Health is preferred. A current license to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery in the State of Washington AND current registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency for prescription of controlled substances.
