Why does the job exist?

The position is responsible for working with health systems and community organizations to help reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in New Mexico.

How does it get done?

The Health Educator-Advanced  works closely with the Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program Manager to strategically plan and implement activities to meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) objectives related to high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The ability to write CDC funding applications and reports; develop, monitor, and evaluate contractual agreements; and gather and interpret data is required. The Health Educator must also develop and maintain partnerships and perform public speaking to a wide variety of audiences about, but not limited to, risk factors for heart disease and prevention/management strategies. The position works with other programs in the Population and Community Health Bureau to reduce the burden of chronic diseases in New Mexico.

Health Systems, community organizations, the general public, and populations at risk for cardiovascular disease.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, or Social Sciences and a minimum of two years in a health-related field. Knowledge of New Mexico health systems or established relationships with health systems is preferred.
Experience creating outreach materials, including but not limited to power point presentations, excel spreadsheets, graphs, and reports.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
