Summary

This Project/Program Manager III will serve as a key member of the Policy and Planning Team at Public Health – Seattle & King County through December 2021. This position will collaborate with community-based teams to facilitate Public Health policy work, including identifying policy issues, sharing information, and coordinating messaging for interconnected efforts on COVID-19 response. This work will also include efforts to align the Director’s Office Equity Plan and the June 2020 King County Board of Health resolution declaring racism a public health crisis.
 
 Who May Apply: This 1.0 FTE, benefits-eligible, Term-Limited Temporary/Special Duty position is open to all qualified candidates.
 
 Work Schedule: This position works 40 hours per week and is not overtime eligible.
 

Job Duties

 

  • Working with community members, internal teams and other partners, provide cross departmental coordination to identify and advance policy goals
  • Actively participate in Public Health’s Community Mitigation and Response team and Equity Response team; ensure communications flow between community members and county decision makers
  • Support creation of meaningful policies and procedures informed by stakeholders and aligned with King County’s Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan.
  • Coordinate with internal department staff and other County staff to support communications and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, particularly related to Washington’s Roadmap to Recovery Plan.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests about the department’s work, including politically sensitive inquiries about the program or work being done
  • Engage and seek input from impacted communities to develop systems and policies that advance equity and social justice
  • Participate in as requested in the COVID-19 response

 

Skills/Eligibility:

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

 

  • Experience in policy analysis and policy development using a racial equity framework
  • Experience working with Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, low-income communities and persons with disabilities. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including individuals, families, culturally specific and community-based groups, volunteer boards, policy committees, service providers, government and systems partners, and co-workers.
  • Experience in project management, strategic planning, community engagement and partner relations.
  • Experience in public health, public administration, health policy, social work, or related field. 
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including group facilitation
  • Deep knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices, and understanding of the effects of place, race and policy and systems-based inequities on marginalized communities and populations.

 
Desired Qualifications:

  • Skill in working and understanding complex application of intersectional approaches and strategies, in terms of disability and race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, economic status, class, and other identities
  • Skills to prepare visual and written documents for specific users, to create multi-use spreadsheets, and to synthesize complex data for decision making.
  • Project management and meeting facilitation
  • Understanding of public health functions, systems and infrastructure.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a virtual office environment, adapting to a variety of software platforms.
  • Adept in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, various social media and other virtual platforms. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative networks.
  • Ability to work with creativity and flexibility, both independently and as a team member; to work under deadlines and on several tasks simultaneously; and, to organize and prioritize quickly in response to changing needs. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, management, partner agencies and organizations, state and local officials, and the general public.
