LOCATION: Atlanta, GA

CLOSING DATE: June 4, 2021

OPPORTUNITY TYPE: Fellowship

JOB #: 17247

POSTED: April 22, 2021

Description:

A research opportunity is currently available with the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) within the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.

This opportunity is with the National Public Health Institute (NPHI) Program, which is responsible for helping countries establish and strengthen NPHIs around the globe. NPHIs help countries carry out essential public health functions, ensure accountability for public health resources, and serve as homes for countries’ public health systems and expertise. The U.S. national public health institute is CDC in Atlanta, but many other countries have – or are developing – their own institutes. Building on more than 70 years of experience, CDC helps countries develop and strengthen their own organized, well-functioning NPHI to protect the public’s health and contain disease close to the source.

The participant will collaborate with a team that facilitates CDC support for NPHIs and/or the NPHI Program’s ability to better describe the value of investing in NPHI development. The participant will be involved in the development of communications such as best practices, SOPs, success stories, web content, and social media content. The participant will also contribute to CARES funded projects on the NPHI Program including coordination of experts from across CDC and developing communications specific to the CARES projects.

During this Fellowship, the participant will collaborate side-by-side with CDC subject matter experts in a mentor-mentee relationship to accomplish activities. The participant can expect to gain (1) experience in assisting with the coordination of multiple activities that support the NPHI Program’s global portfolio for institution development, (2) experience in assisting with the development of communications materials for various internal and external audiences (3) skills in monitoring and evaluation efforts, including program data analysis and reporting for the CARES projects and 4) broad exposure to the various offices and programs across CDC, and partner engagement external to CDC.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: Summer 2021; start date is flexible

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
