Purpose of Position

This posting will be used to conduct ongoing recruitment and will remain open until position has been filled.

Why does the job exist?

This position will support the Obesity, Nutrition, and Physical Activity program’s efforts to increase healthy eating and physical activity opportunities where children and low-income adults live, learn, play, work, eat, and shop. Healthy eating and physical activity are lifestyle behaviors that can help prevent obesity and subsequent chronic disease.

How does it get done?

This position will: 1) develop and maintain partnerships to advance healthy eating and physical activity initiatives in Healthy Kids Healthy Communities (HKHC) counties and tribal communities across New Mexico (25%); 2) participate in strategic planning to effectively implement ONAPA’s statewide healthy eating, physical activity, and obesity prevention strategies in the following settings: early care and education, schools, food, and the built environment (25%); 3) provide on-going technical assistance, training, and support to HKHC contractors and partners (20%); 4) monitor contracts and assist in developing contractor scopes of work (15%); and 5) use program data to plan, evaluate, and guide program development (15%).

ONAPA program staff, state and local partners, state agencies, policymakers, community-based organizations, and individuals.

Ideal Candidate

1) Master’s degree in public health and two (2) years of experience in a public health setting with a focus on nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevention.
2) Experience working in communities to increase opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table in the job posting.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Activities are carried out in an office setting with extensive personal computer usage, considerable exposure to visual screen display, and frequent phone usage. Activities also include delivering, carrying, and using measurement equipment for statewide BMI surveillance which involves walking, standing, crouching, kneeling, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing. Position also requires the use of state vehicles.
