Description:

Good Cheer is seeking a Fresh Foods Coordinator to join our food bank staff. The Fresh Foods Coordinator will support our produce department and on-site kitchen in food processing and season-extension efforts to increase local food diversity in the food bank year round. This role requires indoor and outdoor work, collaboration with diverse stakeholders, and the flexibility to switch attention between various tasks and priorities throughout the day.

Essential Functions
● Promote fresh produce and nutritious choices
○ Maintain signage and presentation of fresh foods
○ Coordinate educational offerings to food bank clients about cooking and nutrition
○ Participate in nutrition policy decisions and implementation
● Lead kitchen preservation and processing efforts
○ Ensure the ongoing safety and cleanliness of food storage and preparation areas
○ Develop and test recipes
○ Utilize overstocked product to create value-added food choices in the food bank
● Support waste-reduction efforts in the kitchen and food bank
○ Identify gaps or gluts in produce availability, and strategize ways to improve
○ Coordinate surplus sharing with community partners
● Maintain the flow and rotation of fresh produce
○ Receive, unload, and process donations
○ Rotate inventory, stock shelves, and set appropriate point values and limits
○ Track and document supplies, kitchen logs, and food inventory
● Support volunteer involvement in the food bank store, warehouse, and kitchen
○ Promote labeling and organizing of workspaces for ease of access by volunteers
○ Train, delegate, supervise, and assist food bank volunteers
● Other duties and projects as needed

This is a full time, year round position. Starting pay is $14.50/hour, with a review after 6 months of employment.

Skills/Eligibility:

Necessary Skills & Qualifications
● ANSI accredited Food Protection Manager Certification and current WA Food Worker Card
(or willingness to attain these upon hire)
● Ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse and collaborative team
● Strong analytical problem solving and organizational skills
● Excellent written and oral communication skills
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly

Desired Skills & Qualifications
● 2+ years kitchen or culinary experience
● Food storage and preservation knowledge (pickling, dehydrating, canning)
● Supermarket training or background (especially produce departments or farmer’s markets)
● Computer savvy, with familiarity in spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
● Experience managing volunteers
● Conflict management skills
