Description:

As an Industrial Hygienist, you will:

  • Provide guidance to health protection aspects of emergency operations; investigate safety
    and health aspects of employee concerns; resolve toxicological and epidemiological issues
    from the Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety and Occupational Health Programs for Sandia Field Office (SFO) sites.
  • Serve as SFO point of contact for the Beryllium Rule (10CFR850). Supports occupational
    safety (e.g., explosive safety, firearms safety, electrical safety, hoisting and rigging safety,
    construction safety, etc.) areas under 10CFR851.
  • Research development operations and present a variety of unknown and unevaluated industrial
    and occupational safety and health issues; and occasionally serves as the Senior Federal Official
    for the SFO emergency response organization.
  • Apply a wide range of theories, concepts, and principles to resolve difficult occupational health and safety problems.
  • Perform oversight of the contractor’s industrial hygiene and environmental health programs and
    recognize project future needs and provide technical skill and ability to anticipate and identify
    problem areas.
  • Evaluate hazards, develop cost beneficial corrective actions, and assure timely
    implementation to keep risks to personnel and facilities as low as reasonably practicable.

  • Some travel is required (approximately 10%).
  • Approximately 25-50% of work may involve on-site inspections and surveys requiring prolonged walking /standing. May be exposed to hazardous conditions which requires use of personal protective equipment and training.

 Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A qualified candidate’s online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-02 or GS-12. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: developing internal policy and objectives, appraising programs, and/or initiating requirements for the elimination or control of industrial and environmental health hazards at their source.

This experience must demonstrate the following: 1) conduct studies or inspections; 2) gather and analyze facts and samples; 3) evaluate efficiency of equipment and practices; and/or 4) write reports of findings.
