Since 1962, the UNC Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has provided leading-edge care to patients. As you can imagine, the field of plastic surgery has changed drastically in that time, and we have evolved right along with it. Today’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery covers a wide range of surgical care.

Position Summary

UNC is seeking a Research Associate in the Department of Surgery. UNC is regularly ranked among the top public institutions in the country with UNC School of Medicine and School of Public Health regularly ranked in the top 30 institutions.

The purpose of this position is to support various research and administrative functions for the UNC Surgical Treatment of Lymphedema (STOL) program by acting in a support role to facilitate various processes in patient intake, data collection, data-analysis, and report preparation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated person with a track record of involvement in multiple research projects; experience working with data as well as patients and excited to work in a highly-collaborative and multi-disciplinary research environment.

-Requires one year of relevant experience in communications, and administrative skills
-Requires knowledge of basic mathematical, research and communications principles
-Requires ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
-Requires demonstrated skills in analyzing data, applying critical-thinking and formulating resolutions
-Requires ability to escalate issues to a higher level after applying critical thinking
-Requires a solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint)
-Proficiency in MS Excel is required

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

-A master’s degree or other post-bachelors experience will be an advantage but is not required.
-Experience working in a healthcare setting in any role will be an advantage but is not required.
-Experience in a customer-facing/customer service role will be an advantage but is not required.
-Experience with IRB applications, report and research writing will be an advantage but is not required.
