Description:

The Department of Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz) invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure track) position in the broad area of environmental health, including exposome/exposure biology, mechanisms of contaminant action and defense, gene-environment interactions, or microbiome-contaminant interactions that influence host susceptibility. Research at the intersection of environmental health science and epidemiological, statistical, and computational modeling will also be considered; experience in interdisciplinary research is desirable. Candidates with an outstanding research record in areas of environmental health not noted above, who can make significant contributions to leadership in diversity, equity and inclusion and/or incorporate environmental justice in their research, teaching, and/or community engagement and professional activities are also highly encouraged to apply.

Candidates should have evidence of a well-developed research trajectory, and experience and/or demonstrated potential for teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including students from diverse backgrounds. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a robust extramurally-funded research program, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses within the areas of environmental health. Skills/Eligibility:

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in an area related to environmental health sciences, toxicology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or other biomolecular sciences field; at least one year of postdoctoral experience at time of application; and a demonstrated research record.
