Duties include

  • Serving as a Schools Plan Review Coordinator
    1. Providing technical assistance, plan review, rule interpretation, and consultative services to state and local public health, safety professionals, and the public to protect health through accurate and consistent best practices. 
    2. Consulting with the management and staff of local health, industry, state agencies, and professional associations to identify needs so program activities and resources are properly prioritized. Standardizing local health school program leads to promote inspection skills and consistency for plan reviews. 
    3. Consulting regularly with co-workers and supervisor to ensure the agency’s school safety messages are consistent and cohesive. 
    4. Routinely visiting local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to meet with management and staff, as appropriate, to discuss program status, plan review inspections, and needs.
  • Developing guidance documents and training materials with support from the Program Manager.
    1. Researching, developing, and updating technical guidance and training materials on school facility construction, design, and maintenance.
    2. Reviewing existing training materials to ensure they have and meet program objectives. 
    3. Consulting regularly with program staff, Program Manager, and supervisor to ensure the materials are accurate and consistent with rules and guidelines.
  • Providing support and developing and presenting classroom and virtual training on contemporary laws, rules, issues, policies, and practices to a wide variety of industry, regulatory, and association audiences. Providing support in field training on plan review and inspection techniques to LHJ staff and others.

Required Qualifications

Option 1:  Four (4) years of experience in environmental health, environmental science, or an allied field.

 

 OR


Option 2:  A bachelor’s degree in environmental health, environmental science, or an allied field. AND 2 years of experience interpreting rules and regulations regarding public health and environmental standards. 

 

AND

 

2 years of experience in the following:

  • Conducting inspections and interacting with public health regulations and statutes to provide technical assistance regarding safety hazards or issues to various stakeholders. 
  • Conducting plan reviews and writing comprehensive reports. 
  • Developing and presenting training and educational outreach on broad scope subjects and stakeholders.
  • Participating in the development of school safety guidance, best practices, policies, or rules regarding environmental public health hazards or issues.
