Reporting to the Community Partnership Manager, our Community Grants Coordinator for the Youth Cannabis and Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program (YCCTPP) within the Community Based Prevention Section (CBP) of the Office of Healthy and Safe Communities, you will:

  • Coordinate and/or support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategies, activities, and tactics related to community engagement and capacity building.
  • Serve as contract manager for community-based and tribal-related organizations, receiving funds from YCCTPP’s community capacity grants to address social determinants of health and/or root causes that would in turn decrease substance use (including commercial tobacco and cannabis) within their community.  

Some of what you will be doing

  • Developing, administering, and managing community capacity building contracts with community-based and tribal-related organizations.
  • Coordinating the planning and implementation of strategies, activities, and tactics to improve community engagement in capacity building related to cannabis and commercial tobacco prevention and education. In collaboration with the Evaluation Coordinator, participating in all related evaluation efforts.

 This full-time, permanent Health Services Consultant 3 (HSC3) position reports to the Community Partnership Manager.

 

The duty station for this position is Tumwater, WA.  Telework (mobile-work) is currently expected.  When approved, the incumbent is expected to report to the duty station for work activities. An alternative work schedule may be considered upon request and supervisor approval.  Telework - once returned to the duty station for work activities, may be considered upon request with supervisory approval. This would need to be a conversation between the hiring supervisor and the incumbent.

Cannabis and commercial tobacco prevention and education efforts focus on the implementation of the legislative mandate codified in RCW 69.50.540 that requires the Department of Health to create, implement, operate, and manage a cannabis, vapor product, and commercial tobacco education and public health program that contains the following:  

  • A cannabis use public health hotline that provides treatment referrals utilizing evidence-based or research-based public health approaches and does not solely advocate an abstinence-only approach. 
  • A grants program for local health agencies that supports development and implementation of coordination intervention strategies for prevention and reduction of commercial tobacco, vapor products, and cannabis use by youth.
  • Media-based education campaigns across television, internet, radio, print, and out-of-home advertising, separately targeting youth and adults that provide medically and scientifically accurate information about the health and safety risks posed by cannabis use.
  • Outreach to priority populations regarding commercial tobacco, vapor product, and cannabis use, prevention, and cessation.
