About the Pike Place Market Foundation’s Food Access Program: The Food Access Program, administered by the Foundation’s neighborhood center The Market Commons, aims to support food security for all Pike Place Market community members and help create equitable access to the nutritious, quality foods offered at Pike Place Market.

About the Position: The Food Access intern will be responsible for assisting with a variety of programs and engaging with activities such as weekly produce bag packing, subsidized shopping programs, and community gardening. This seasonal position offers meaningful experience with community food access and hands-on gardening from seed to harvest. We also approach this internship as a collaborative process and are willing to provide experience in areas of interest to meet course requirements and/or career goals. Possible Responsibilities:

  • Assist with weekly vegetable bag packing for the Pike Place Market CSA Program
  • Support farmers market staff at seasonal markets by helping with subsidized shopping transactions and engaging with shoppers at the information tent
  • Collaborate with staff on planning, tracking, and administering food access shopping programs at The Market Commons
  • Assist with daily gardening tasks including planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting. Coordinate tasks with community garden volunteers and Food Bank staff
  • Assist with food distribution to Food Access program clients
Additional Details:

Compensation: We will also be able to provide a food stipend via our produce program.
Transportation: Orca Card or equivalent transportation subsidy.
Special scheduling: Potential spring and summer start dates available. 15-30 hours a week. Availability to work Tuesdays encouraged.

  • Willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills (or willingness to develop client-facing communication skills)
  • Experience or interest in working with diverse communities of all backgrounds and ages
  • Interest in local food systems, food access, and community gardening
