The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) is a nationally renowned program of epidemiology and clinical trial research centers that produce innovative and effective solutions to Veteran and national healthcare problems through high quality multi-site research studies.

The Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC) is hiring a full-time National Research Study Coordinator (GS-11) for the EPIC3 Study, CSP #2028. The Seattle ERIC is a research center within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System that works to improve the health outcomes of Veterans through high quality epidemiologic research.

CSP #2028: Epidemiology, Immunology, and Clinical Characteristics of COVID-19 (EPIC3) within the Veterans Health Administration gathers longitudinal data on the epidemiology, virology, immunology, and clinical characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infections and the COVID-19 disease. The EPIC3 Study is a high impact, national research study that aims to provide critical insights about SARS-CoV-2 infections and the COVID-19 disease, their impact on the health and well-being of Veterans, and how the VA can better anticipate and manage future pandemics.  

The National Research Study Coordinator will work under the direction of the Study Program Manager and Study Co-Chair Javeed A. Shah, MD. This position is based in Seattle, WA.

Key Duties:

  • Coordinate and encourage research analysis using collected biospecimens
  • Develop benchmarks and progress measures for ongoing biospecimen analysis with partner labs
  • Provide support for bioinformatics analysis
  • Assist Study Co-chair with scheduling, agenda setting, and development of materials for national and local study meetings
  • Contribute to the management and maintenance of the Operations Manual 
  • Assist with designing and developing standard operating procedures, databases, and study materials; maintain and troubleshoot tracking infrastructures with core and partner laboratories
  • Ensure compliance with the study protocol, including informed consent, safety, and data security requirements
  • Oversee data management and quality assurance/quality control procedures
  • Write papers for peer-reviewed journals and collaborate with co-authors

Qualifications:

  • Education Requirements:
    • BA/BS in a scientific- or health-related field and 4-5 years of work involving Human Subjects OR
    • Master’s or higher degree in a scientific- or health-related field and at least 2 years of work involving Human Subjects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook required
  • Experience in human immunology, virology, or other high-dimensional analysis of observations in human tissue required
  • Experience with scientific writing and publication
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of researchers and staff
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Solid problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to adapt to evolving and competing priorities and timelines
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft SharePoint, and REDCap programs preferred
