Description:

As a Environmental Health Scientist you will:

  • Provide expert analysis of environmental data associated with uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, and controlled hazardous waste facilities.
  • Provide scientific expertise required to assess site-specific public health impacts of identified hazardous substances.
  • Provide environmental health and technical advice and appropriate recommendations regarding potential human health impacts resulting from exposure or potential exposure to hazardous substances.
  • Responsible for assisting with the development of public and petition health assessments and/or consultations for complex and/or politically sensitive sites.
  • Attend, lead, and participate in public meetings and hearings to represent ATSDR and to clarify and defend ATSDR’s environmental and public health positions concerning Public Health Assessments and Health Consultations.
  • Develop, prepare, and present technical materials for publication and distribution to other Federal, state, and local agencies, and to the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Eligibility:
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Background Investigation is required.
  • Promotion potential: Yes, This position has promotion potential to GS-13 grade level. 

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications: GS-12

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS- 11 grade level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in assessing environmental health data associated with industrial facilities and environmental hazardous waste sites.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience inassessing environmental health data, identifying recommendations, and developing technical reports for environmental health issues related to hazardous waste sites.
