Education Program Coordinator - Ventura County Farm to School
Description:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Education Program Coordinator will plan, coordinate, and oversee the organization’s education programs, events, and activities. This is a new role and will require foundation-building work to launch new programs. Specific program components include:
Farmer of the Month- Collaboration with VCF2S farm partners to teach students about the local fruits and vegetables served in school meal programs.
School Garden Program- Manage the VCF2S School Garden Fund and support teachers, administrators, and students to develop, maintain, and improve school garden programs throughout the county. Serve as a resource to connect teachers to standards-aligned garden based curriculum.
Professional Development: Coordinate monthly Garden Educator Meetings to facilitate knowledge sharing within our community and increase our collective skills as educators.
Nutrition and Cooking Education: Coordinate nutrition and cooking education programs by developing partnerships with community organizations and universities.
Skills/Eligibility:Essential Duties:
- Plan, organize and direct the educational program activities for VCF2S nutrition, cooking, and garden education programs. Monitor instructional activities to assure alignment with curriculum standards and program goals and objectives.
- Establish and maintain program timelines and priorities in accordance with VCF2S strategic goals
- Maintain program compliance with all related laws and regulations pertaining to nonprofit organizations and public school districts
- Coordinate regular communication with program partners and participants
- Research current trends, new resources and curriculum to monitor best practices in farm to school, nutrition, cooking, and environmental education programs.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required, Master’s Degree preferred.
- Experience: Five years’ experience in an educational setting or with nonprofit program management, preferably in the areas of outdoor/environmental education, agriculture or nutrition and culinary education. Direct teaching experience is a plus.
