Description:

This is a career service position that reports to the Immunization Team Lead in the Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Immunization (CD-Imms) section of the Prevention Division.  The Adult Immunization Branch Lead is responsible for planning, managing, monitoring and evaluating various projects, initiatives and activities aimed at expanding awareness and implementation of the Standards for Adult Immunization practice and achieving optimal immunization coverage levels among older adults, high-risk adults with chronic medical conditions, immigrants and refugees, pregnant people, and un/underinsured adults.  The incumbent is also responsible for supervising a team of public health professionals, developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with internal and external adult immunization stakeholders, and conducting administrative duties as assigned. The position will work in close collaboration with the other Immunization Team Branch Leads as well as programs across the department that provide services to adult populations. Complex tasks are performed under limited supervision where general policies may not have been previously established and standard methods may not be available.

Job Duties

 

  • Provide subject matter expertise and advanced technical assistance on adult vaccine science and recommendations.
  • Under the leadership of the Immunization Program Manager, oversees the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Adult Immunization Program activities and strategies. 
  • Analyze and evaluate adult immunization strategies and programmatic activities for efficiencies and effectiveness. Provide guidance and recommendations to improve program operations, develop plans for implementation, and coordinate the implementation of adult immunization program activities and initiatives.
  • Facilitate access to and increase awareness of vaccines recommended for older adults, people with disabilities, high-risk adults with chronic medical conditions, immigrants and refugees, pregnant people, and un/underinsured adults with a focus on addressing disparities among racial and ethnic minorities. Engage trusted community leaders in reaching target populations with information about the importance of adult vaccination.
  • Identify and address barriers to adult vaccination, including vaccine hesitancy. Work with internal teams such as Communications, Community Navigators, REACH community engagers, and other partners to develop and disseminate tailored communication and education tools for target populations.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with community partners, health plans, advocacy organizations, adult medical providers, specialty societies, and agencies representing and/or serving target populations to incorporate the CDC Standards for Immunization Practice into clinical care and drive adult immunization through education, dissemination, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as an adult immunization resource hub and share information through newsletters, blog posts, social media, and other targeted communication channels regarding adult vaccine recommendations, access points and best practices.
  • Develop adult immunization trainings, toolkits and other resources for health care providers and community stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Healthcare Lead, provide technical assistance and develop tools to improve adult immunization providers’ clinical practices and workflows; encourage routine assessment of adult vaccinations (using EHRs and IIS) among providers, facilities, and organizations delivering vaccines to adults; and educate and encourage health care providers to strongly recommend and/or incorporate adult vaccination into the provision of other adult preventive services and chronic disease management.
  • Represent the PHSKC Immunization Program at National Adult Immunization Coordinators’ Partnership (NAICP) and other adult immunization coalitions as appropriate.
  • In coordination with Healthcare PPM3, support VPD outbreak planning and response activities (e.g. mpox vaccine response) for adult populations.
  • Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligation for emergency response and/or recovery of Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.

  • Two (2) or more years of progressive supervisory and management level experience.
  • Knowledge of public health, immunizations, program planning, development, continuous quality improvement (CQI) and evaluation.
  • Strong skills in researching, interpreting, and analyzing complex data and policies.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the effects of place, race, and policy and systems-based inequities as they relate to the domestic healthcare system.
  • Demonstrate skill in synthesizing complex information and translating it into clear and concise policy documents.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communications skills, including preparation of policy briefs, recommendations, and presentations to the public, media and organization leadership.
  • Experience developing creative and workable solutions to complex problems and policy issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with people under pressure, negotiate among multiple stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to manage projects, coordinate workgroups and meetings, and serve as a team lead.
  • Ability to prioritize time and manage multiple project deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and work independently with minimum supervision.
