These 2 positions will be responsible for providing collaborative, non-regulatory, Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) consultations with healthcare facilities in King County. The primary focus of the ICAR consultations will be on COVID-19 outbreak prevention or in response to an active outbreak. On occasion, consultations may include other viral respiratory diseases or multi-drug resistant organisms. The healthcare facilities will largely include long-term care facilities; however, acute care hospitals, outpatient clinics, dental clinics, hemodialysis clinics or ambulatory care clinics may require support. Consultations may be conducted either onsite or virtually. In addition to conducting ICAR consultations, the PHN may conduct healthcare facility infection prevention and control training and education sessions. These positions will frequently collaborate with external partners such as the Washington State Department of Health.

Other responsibilities could include conducting case and outbreak investigation activities such as assessing transmission risk, providing guidance, education, clinical consultation, supporting point prevalence screening, and coordinating specimen collection and submission. The PHN may collaborate on grant deliverables and improving stakeholder engagement activities. In times of outbreak response, these positions may be asked to provide support to other conditions within the General Communicable Disease program, including vaccine preventable diseases, enteric diseases, viral hepatitis, zoonotic, emerging infections, immunization activities (including vaccination clinics) and immunity assessments (e.g. drawing blood for titers).

Job Duties

 

• Conduct in-person and virtual Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) consultations with healthcare facilities using standardized tools.
• Provide clinical and technical consultation and infection prevention support to healthcare providers and facilities.
• Deliver infection prevention and control training and education sessions.
• Support notifiable disease surveillance and investigations, including implementation of disease control measures.
• Assist in developing infection prevention and/or disease investigation educational materials, toolkits, trainings, and protocols.
• Assist with documentation and communication on case and outbreak investigations in oral and written formats for internal and external partners, including summaries of case and outbreak investigations, drafting postings for the website, and other communications and materials as needed.
• Support notifiable disease surveillance and investigations, including implementation of disease control measures.
• Provide information and technical assistance to other Section staff and Departmental programs, and members of the public.
• Participate in Section’s response during outbreaks and emergencies which may include assisting with after-hours disease investigation and response activities, as assigned and approved by the supervisor.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Requirements:

• Requires current Washington State Registered Nurse license in good standing
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing science or a graduate level nursing degree of MSN, DNP and or PhD
• BLS-CPR for healthcare providers
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License or ability to travel to various sites within Seattle-King County.
