The Program on Reproductive Health and the Environment (PRHE) is a collaborative program that aims to create a healthier environment for human reproduction and development through advancing scientific inquiry, clinical care and health policies that prevent exposures to harmful chemicals in the environment. We conduct epidemiologic and translational research in environmental reproductive health, with an emphasis on identifying sources of exposure to environmental contaminants, assessing exposures to environmental contaminants, and evaluating the relationship between environmental contaminant exposure and adverse maternal and infant health outcomes. Through our research and advocacy efforts, we are committed to transforming health and improving quality of life for women and children, including those belonging to vulnerable populations who are most affected by environmental health injustices. This is a one-year contract position and may be subject to change based on project needs and supervisor/manager discretion. The position is flexible: a combination of onsite and remote work. Onsite location is 480 16th Street, San Francisco, CA 94158.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.

The PRHE Science Associate in the Program on Reproductive Health and the Environment (PRHE) is responsible for contributing substantive science and policy work to an innovative academic program on research translation focused on environmental health at the University of California, San Francisco. The position is within the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and will report to the Associate Director, Science & Policy in PRHE. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in environmental health sciences, public health, occupational health, epidemiology, toxicology, systematic review methods or related field as well as knowledge of and practice in, environmental health science and policy in the United States. The PRHE Science Associate will have a publication track record in the peer reviewed literature and demonstrate a high level of written and oral communications skills specifically in communicating with scientists and non-scientists.

Skills/Eligibility:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience / training
  • Three-plus (3+) years directly relevant experience
  • Demonstrated high level of written and oral communications skills and ability to communicate with scientists and non-scientists
  • Demonstrated expertise in environmental health sciences, public health, occupational health, epidemiology, toxicology, systematic review methods or related field
  • Strong level of attention to detail and ability to manage many moving priorities and projects
  • Possess a desire to learn about science-policy work and demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning
  • Commitment to public health advocacy
  • Ability to work well with others and desire to work on collaborative projects
  • Possess a level of creativity and a willingness to try different solutions to solve problems or advance the work, technologically or otherwise
  • Technological savviness and proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MPH, M.Sc, or PhD) and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Publication track record in the peer-reviewed literature
  • Knowledge of and practice in, environmental health science and policy in the United States
  • Experience in public health advocacy
  • Knowledge of the application of systematic review methods
  • Experience with social media and usage in a professional/academic setting
  • Expertise in Biostatistics
