Nature of Organization: 

A team of faculty and staff in the UW Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is working to develop a hospital-based program that will provide race concordant perinatal doula care to black patients who deliver at our hospital. To inform the design of this program, we are conducting a stakeholder analysis to identify the needs and priorities of community perinatal birthwork organizations, community-based doulas, labor and delivery unit providers and support staff, and patients.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

This position will perform the duties of a study coordinator for essential program development baseline research for a community-engaged hospital-based doula program at UW.  

This position will work with OB/GYN faculty and staff and will be responsible for the executing the logistical aspects of a mixed methods study that will engage stakeholder groups to assess attitudes, preferences, needs, and priorities of stakeholders to guide program development. This project is part of a larger 18-month project to plan and launch this program.  

This position can be a hybrid arrangement that can accommodate up to 60% remote work time.   

Duties and responsibilities will be to: 

  • Draft research protocols for qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. 
  • Maintain secure qualitative data storage on shared drives and in qualitative analysis software (Dedoose or Atlas).

  • Manage qualitative data collection processes through scheduling interviews/focus groups, overseeing participant incentive receipt, ensuring implementation of data collection protocols, and checking transcripts. 
  • Participate in coding qualitative data. 
  • Lead screening and enrollment of patients for clinical and qualitative studies, including by communicating the study protocol, conducting verbal and written informed consent to potential subjects, and scheduling for research activities. 
  • Provide technical support to enrolled participants. 
  • Work with multiple team members to ensure communication across project team and stakeholder groups. 
  • Work professionally with external partners – including academic researchers, advocates, and community stakeholders – to execute all elements of research activities. 
  • Assist with IRB application, modifications, and renewals. 
  • Guide internal team operations by developing process-related reports and data visualizations for managing project progress and identifying barriers to progress. 
  • Participate actively and collaboratively in team meetings. 
  • Work with multiple team members to coordinate and track study purchases (ex: participant equipment and incentives). 
  • Conduct literature reviews. 
  • Coordinate team meeting schedules and documentation. 
  • Support publication development and submission. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in public health, health services, epidemiology or related area (MPH/MS-level coursework desired)
  • 2 years of applied work experience to include: 
    • Previous experience with human subjects research and a foundational knowledge of community-engaged research 
    • Previous experience managing large and/or multiple research projects
    • Expertise designing, developing, analyzing, and/or maintaining clinical research database structures and systems (e.g., REDCap) 
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Zoom and other teleconferencing technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to interact respectfully, empathetically, and with cultural humility with persons of diverse backgrounds and at all levels of the university and external community groups
  • Demonstrated skills in writing, proofreading, and electronic as well as verbal communications
  • Independent time management skills, including ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent ability to work in teams
