Bilingual [Chinese/English] Client Services Specialist - Pike Market Senior Center Food Bank

The Pike Market Senior Center & Downtown Food Bank (PMSC-DTFB) is seeking a Bilingual Client Services Specialist to join our Food Bank Team.This role will provide communications and operation support, helping us ensure that our community has access to no-cost groceries. As a Client Support Specialist, you will help clients check in as they arrive, pack clients’ selection of groceries, communicate food bank policies, record notes in English, and facilitate communication between clients and non-Chinese speaking staff.
- Welcome and check clients into the online database when they arrive
- Educate and enforce clients on food bank policies and rules
- Assist other staff in communicating with Chinese speaking clients
- Provide Chinese/English language interpretation as needed
- Gather input and feedback from clients
- Offer and pack available grocery items in a friendly and efficient manner
- Attend PMSC-DTFB team meetings, staff days, and development meetings.
- PMSC-DTFB retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients in a human services environment.
- Ability to present a calm and cordial demeanor while interacting with with diverse population including people who may be experiencing mental health challenges or substance abuse issues
- Exhibits effective interpersonal skills fostering open communication between staff, volunteers, and clients
- Availability to work 18-20 hours per week and demonstrated work history of adhering to work schedules and maintaining consistent attendance.
- Proven capability to comprehend and adhere to instructions.
- Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Proficient in English and Chinese (reading, writing, and understanding)
- Ability to use a laptop and/or tablet technology for entering client information
