One Health Leadership Opening - University District Street Medicine

LOCATION: Seattle, WA

CLOSING DATE: May 18, 2024

OPPORTUNITY TYPE: Job

JOB #: 20455

POSTED: April 18, 2024

Description:

One Health Clinics occur at a New Horizons Ministries and Nyer Erness. We serve unhoused young adults and their pets. UDSM students serve as patient navigators to improve accessibility of healthcare for the human and their pets through a collaboration with Neighborcare, WSU School of Veterinary Medicine, and UW’s One Health Center

The role also involves going to the clinic and helping all the volunteers at the clinic. We usually try to have three patient navigators who direct care of the patients and their animals. The navigators stay with them during the entire visit and help the vet and nurse practitioner fill in the gaps. For example, the navigator can tell the nurse practitioner anything important they heard the vet say that they think is pertinent to the health of the patient. Because the clinic serves both animals and humans, it’s important to keep the visits running smoothly, so one of the jobs of the volunteer coordinator is to help the flow of the visits and make sure humans are seeing the nurse practitioner and animals are seeing the vet. So far, the dates of the clinic continue to be the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month (2-5PM), but that may change in the future to three times a month.
