We are seeking a Data Integration Epidemiologist to support the CDC Emerging Infections Program (EIP) Respiratory Virus Hospitalization Surveillance Network (RESP-NET) project. This role will enhance our surveillance capacity for COVID-19, Influenza, RSV, and other significant public health conditions. As part of the Data Integration and Quality Assurance (DIQA) Team, you will contribute to designing and managing surveillance systems, ensuring continuous quality assurance and improvement of surveillance data, and coordinating with partners at various levels to support surveillance activities. You will also support public health emergency preparedness and response activities within the Agency.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design and management of surveillance systems for COVID-19, Influenza, RSV and other diseases of public health importance
  • Develop and implement data management, processing, linkage, and transformation using software such as R, SAS, and SQL.
  • Analyze surveillance data and identify opportunities for data integration to guide public health actions.
  • Maintain and update desk manuals and process documents.
  • Develop and implement data quality solutions and metrics to enhance surveillance data.
  • Design methods for data quality monitoring and analysis.
  • Conduct routine systematic data quality checks and data cleaning using statistical software.
  • Develop reports and communicate data anomalies to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal partners, local health jurisdictions, and tribes on technical epidemiologic projects.
  • Design and implement data management solutions for public health actions.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises and training.
  • Provide surge capacity for the agency in responding to public health emergencies.

Qualifications and Experience:

Your experience may have been gained concurrently. Additional years of experience can substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis. 

 

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in a public health agency or a similar setting with responsibilities in one or more of the following disciplines: health/disease data analysis, epidemiological methods, biostatistics, public health informatics, data visualization. You must meet one of the following qualification options.

  • Option 1: 6+ years of experience
  • Option 2: A Bachelor’s degree AND 4+ years of experience
  • Option 3: A Master’s degree AND 2+ years of experience

 

Required skills and experience

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience effectively using R statistical software to develop and modify code for manipulation, linkage, and/or analysis of large datasets.

 

Additional Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with local health jurisdiction disease investigators.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working in communicable disease epidemiology or surveillance
