Description:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, compliance with environmental regulations, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization. This role involves managing EHS programs, conducting risk assessments, training employees, and driving continuous improvements in environmental and safety practices. This role requires a strong understanding of safety regulations, industry standards, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of electrical safety and a proactive approach to risk management and incident prevention. This position reports to the Director of EHS and will work onsite at ZincFive headquarters in Tualatin, Oregon.

EHS Specialist Job Duties: 

  • Help develop, implement, and manage EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Drive the adoption of safety best practices and promote a Zero Harm safety culture across the organization
  • Maintain safety awareness training programs, ensuring that all employees understand EHS protocols and compliance requirements
  • Stay current on regulatory changes, ensuring the company remains compliant with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Advise management on regulatory requirements, ensure the timely submission of EHS-related permits, reports, documentation, and track findings
  • Perform risk assessments and hazard evaluations to identify potential workplace hazards and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining various safety manuals, procedures, training materials, reports, and other technical documents related to workplace health and safety
  • Lead investigations of workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental incidents using root cause analysis techniques
  • Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and ensure continuous improvement of safety programs
  • Report findings appropriately post investigation
  • Conduct safety training programs for new hires and ongoing employee education to enhance safety awareness and regulatory compliance
  • Promote safety communication through regular meetings, training sessions, and safety campaigns to engage all employees in EHS initiatives
  • Participate in Safety Committee Meetings
  • Conduct regular EHS audits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance with established safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Provide management with regular reports, performance metrics, and recommendations based on safety audits and incident trends.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, including fire, spill, and evacuation procedures
  • Lead emergency drills to ensure all employees are prepared and know how to respond in the event of an emergency
  • Collaborate on environmental sustainability initiatives, focusing on waste reduction, energy conservation, and meeting key performance indicators
  • Support the company’s efforts to achieve and maintain ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) certifications

Skills/Eligibility:

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety engineering, preferably in manufacturing, production, industrial labs or technology sectors
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing EHS programs, conducting risk assessments, and managing compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other regulatory requirements
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other relevant certifications preferred

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Experience with ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) certification processes
  • Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and sustainability practices
  • Knowledge of risk assessment tools and methodologies, including hazard assessments and job safety analysis (JSA)
  • Proficiency with EHS software tools for tracking compliance, reporting, training and incident management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels
