Position Description
This temporary position supports our senior nutrition programming, focusing on senior meal site food safety and nutrition education. This position works in collaboration with the Senior Meals Program Manager in performing site visits, monitoring food safety, providing nutrition education and assisting with menu development, as well as promoting the use of more local fresh produce. This position requires site visits to senior meal sites in Seattle/King County, typically midday during the week and for occasional weekend meal program, but otherwise allows for flexible scheduling and remote work (up to about 50%).”
Job Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with program stakeholders and kitchen staff, including many who speak English as a second language
- Schedule and perform monthly site visits to senior congregate meal sites
- Support meal sites to ensure that food quality, sanitation and safety standards are met
- Certify that meals meet the nutrient requirements and assist programs in achieving compliance with the Washington State Senior Nutrition Program Standards
- Conduct nutrition education activities with meal participants and program stakeholders
- Provide farm-to-table education with meal sites that is culturally relevant and increases access to local produce for meal programs and participants
- Monitor compliance with government contract requirements and assist in completion of Aging & Disability Services performance commitments as needed and assigned
Required Skills
- Masters Degree in Human Nutrition, Nutrition Education, Foods and Nutrition, or Public Health Nutrition
- Certification by the State of Washington as a Certified Dietitian (CD)
- Have vehicle and valid driver’s license and be able to transport self and teaching materials to locations throughout King County; mileage is reimbursed at the standard IRS mileage rate, which was $0.70/mile in 2025
- Washington State Food and Beverage Worker’s permit required prior to starting job
- Intermediate computer skills that include Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to creatively respond to site needs and to develop unique approaches for promoting healthy, local food
- Ability to write clear, concise reports
- Extremely self-directed and able to work independently
- Ability to be highly diplomatic, troubleshoot problems, and provide corrections and coaching to kitchen staff in a confident, encouraging and positive manner
- Ability to work with interpreters when providing nutrition education
Desired Experience
- Registered Dietitian status (RD / RDN) from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Experience building capacity and relationships with diverse groups
- Experience working in and providing nutrition education in a community nutrition setting
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for and/or experience relating to and working with a wide variety of cultures
- Working knowledge and experience with group meals or food service, including essential food safety principles
