Seattle is one of the largest centers for global health in the world, and the University of Washington is playing a key role. The Strategic Analysis, Research and Training (START) Center, in partnership with the Michael G. Foster School of Business Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, is calling for applications for Global Innovation Fellows, a small group of MBAs, MPAs, and TECs who will research business problems/technologies of significance in global health alongside graduate students in the School of Public Health.

The Strategic Analysis, Research and Training (START) Center in the Department of Global Health uses an innovative mentorship model to provide high-quality analysis and research support to public health organizations while developing applied research and analytic skills of graduate Research Assistants in global and domestic public health. The START Center was launched in 2011 through a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The START Center team includes graduate students and faculty mentors with diverse backgrounds in global health, epidemiology, business, public administration, and related fields. The Center partners with the Foster Global Innovation Fellows Program to incorporate MBA & MPA students into our teams, integrating a business and/or policy approach into the analyses. With combined field experience on six continents, START teams approach research questions with a nuanced understanding of the complex challenges that affect health in communities across the globe.

This position is open to MBA, MPA, and TEC students, and students in related areas of study at the University of Washington who will be enrolled in a degree program during Fall Quarter 2025 through Spring Quarter 2026.
