Summary:

Student and Academic Services in the UW School of Public Health Dean’s Office is seeking a Graduate Staff Assistant to help support with Admissions, Events and Career Services, and support the International Student Success Program in the Office of the Dean.

International Student Success Program

ISSP activities:

  1. Designated SPHSAS liaison and contact for volunteers to the program; community outreach to community and campus supporters and donors
  2. Track and report expenses for the program with staff in the Office of the Dean (OD)
  3. Track and maintain records of donations and materials
  4. Maintain records of students supported by ISSP
  5. Pursue services including: airport pickup; temporary accommodations, furniture donations, resources, mentorship, guidebook; coordinate recognition of donors and supporters
  6. Serve as a bridge for arriving students

Career Services

  1. Post job and internship opportunities to the Public Health Job Board and post student career events in the Trumba calendar
  2. Assist with evaluating the effectiveness of career events and programs, revise evaluation systems, and provide feedback for improvements.
  3. Assist in drafting and preparing SPH Career Services reports that capture the activities and accomplishments of the Career Services team.
  4. Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Career Development to review and update the School of Public Health Career Services website and related materials.

Admissions  

  1. Assist AD with preparation of annual Fall events: Orientation), and Community Open House
  2. Respond to prospective student inquiries around SPH admissions, opportunities, and student experience.
  3. Update recruitment materials, engage frequently with SPH staff, and communicate with members of external community.

20 hours/week

Assistant Director of Admissions and Outreach Associate Director of Career Development

  • Well-organized with experience in event planning, project management, and evaluation
  • Enjoys critical thinking, problem solving and process organization
  • Experienced communicator able to lead information and orientation sessions with students
  • Applies active listening and willingness to work with others towards a common goal
  • Interested in systems, and platform improvement
  • Strong interest in user experiences assessment, survey design, and evaluation tools
  • Creative eye for details and enjoys use of tools in SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe and Canva
  • The ability to prioritize culturally responsive services for students
  • A candidate who understands the value of prospective student networking and resource-sharing opportunities
  • Current/past participation in student organizations or student leadership positions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to support growing SPH student programming
