The Associate Scientist works with a team of environmental professionals in Lakewood, CO. The person in this position possesses sufficient skills and abilities to conduct laboratory activities such as sample preparation or operating instruments (e.g., GC, GC/MS, HPLC, ICP/AES, ICP/MS) to analyze organic and/or inorganic compounds, data review or conducting air monitoring or other field related activities with direction and oversight as well as sufficient versatility to support additional assigned tasks as needed to meet client requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.
Assignments in environmental management (waste management, waste minimization, regulatory compliance) and health and safety compliance (inspections, inventory of PPE, laboratory supply inventory, and ordering supplies, etc.).
Follows specific guidance and drafts SOPs for management review.
Samples receipt and data entry for LIMS tracking following detailed instructions.
Samples preparation and analysis as described above following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and EPA reference methods.
Provides general laboratory support (e.g., glassware preparation) following detailed instructions.
Typical assignments require working on your feet while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE, generally a lab coat, safety glasses and gloves) for most of the day.
Performs filing, data entry, word processing or similar clerical tasks may be assigned.
Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or related field is required, and a minimum of four (4) years of laboratory, field sampling/monitoring, data review or other relevant experience.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATION
Must pass a U.S. federal security screening prior to beginning employment.
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required.
JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
Administrative support skills including word processing and editing, spreadsheet and database maintenance, scheduling and calendar management (preferably with web-based tools) are preferred.
Experience working within a team environment is preferred.
“Hands-on” experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
Possession of OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER is desirable.
