Description:

Responsible for Environmental Health and Safety Specialist (EHS Specialist) activities in support of the assigned sites. The employee is responsible for reducing risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of safety throughout the organization. The EHS Specialist also collaborates with various departments to identify potential hazards, implements corrective actions, and supports ongoing training initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and coordinate all Safety and Environmental Health related activities at the assigned sites.
  • Ensure that safety processes and procedures are complete and up to date with State and local regulations.
  • Conduct safety related audits in various environments (offices, manufacturing, laboratories, warehousing, etc.), report findings and corrects gaps as they’re identified.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), ergonomic reviews, OSHA assessments, etc.
  • Manage the site’s hazardous waste program; coordinate hazmat pick up and disposal, signs manifests, etc.
  • Create and maintain an accurate inventory of chemicals that are held on site with a catalog of MSDSs.
  • Interact with other sites and assists with EHS related activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Eligibility:

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or related field; Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an EHS role with 3 of those years being in the life sciences industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, EPA guidelines, and other relevant safety standards at the State and local levels.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials, chemical safety, laboratory safety, and environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Knowledge of risk assessment techniques and incident investigation methods.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and record keeping skills and must be able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
