Description:

When you join our team as a EHS Coordinator, you will be responsible for implementing and managing world-leading environmental and health and safety programs. This role serves as the site’s technical resource for all safety and environmental matters. This position will ensure compliance with all Interfor environmental, safety and health policies and procedures, as well as OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies. Work will include coordination or management of specific safety and environmental programs, including compliance training, safety inspections, and incident investigations. 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Safety Culture:
    • Be present and demonstrate and uphold all safe work rules, procedures, and practices, addressing any unsafe acts or conditions immediately.
    • Partner and collaborate with all departments across the site and organization to promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Safety Program Management:
    • Understand and manage all safety programs at the mill, such as fall protection, mobile equipment, contractor safety, electrical safety, crane and hoist, etc.
    • Complete or coordinate annual reviews on safety policies and procedures.
    • Ensure all employees understand and are trained on the lockout program. Coordinate all new updates.
    • Administer contractor safety orientation program.
    • Facilitate industrial hygiene monitoring program, including monitoring of atmosphere contaminants, heat stress, and noise.
    • Assist facility leadership with the development of short and long-term EHS objectives, targets, strategies, and performance-based measures that prioritize and mitigate risks.
    • Maintain sites emergency response manual and coordinate emergency evacuation drill.
    • Obtain and maintain all safety authorizations or certifications at the mill, to include Lockout Checker, Fall Protection Authorized, Forklift, etc.
  • Incident Management:
    • Manage and track safety incidents. Support or lead all investigations and ensure they are fully complete to company standards.
    • Support supervisors and safety committees in root cause analysis and ensure timely follow-up actions.
    • Lead all environmental incident investigations.
  • Audits and Inspections:
    • Perform safety and environmental audits and inspections to identify at-risk conditions or behaviors and ensure compliance with safety requirements.
    • Monitor the worksite - perform proactive and impromptu EHS inspections of the worksite
  • Training Programs:
    • Maintain an environmental and safety training program, including safety orientation for new hires, transferred employees, and annual training schedules.
    •  Lead and coordinate all safety training on site. E.g. training supervisors on incident investigation, maintaining forklift trainers, etc.
    • Lead and coordinate all environmental training on site, to include spill prevention training, hazardous waste training, or other site-specific training requirements.
  • Records:
    • Accurately maintain all environmental, health, and safety files, permits, and records for the facility.
    • Ensure timely submission of safety and environmental reports before deadlines (E.g. DMR’s, OSHA 300 via the ITA, TRI, etc.).
    • Be the site administrator for Interfor’s Incident/Training Management application.
  • Safety Committees:
    • Functionally support all Safety Committee matters.
    • Responsible for monthly Safety Committee Meeting and ensuring the Safety Committee is properly trained.
  • Environmental Program Management:
    • Ensure all environmental permit requirements are completed on time.
    • Administer, coordinate, and perform sampling and inspections related to waste management, stormwater management, spill prevention, air permitting, and sustainability.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay current with new regulations, best practices, and emerging trends in environmental, health, and safety.
    • Proactively implement best practices or other actions to reduce safety or environmental risk.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Eligibility:

What You Offer

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety, with preferred experience in industrial manufacturing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related science, and /or an equivalent level of experience.
  • CSP or similar certification preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, staff, and external parties.
  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks, ensuring that work is completed with precision and minimal errors.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
