This position develops and executes loss prevention and risk management services for the AWC Retro Program. The incumbent evaluates trends and assesses risks and hazards to develop a comprehensive loss prevention program. This position also responds to member inquiries, assess risks and hazards of all members, and formulates loss prevention recommendations to reduce frequency and severity of claims. This may entail extensive travel throughout the state to perform inspections and consultations at member facilities.

What you’ll be doing
- Oversee implementation of Board adopted strategic plan as it relates to loss prevention and lead work in accordance with team workplan
- Conduct on-site loss prevention inspections of member’s facilities; evaluate risks for underwriting purposes, and make recommendations to members for reducing risks and improving safety outcomes
- Conduct presentations to staff at member employers, including executive management, and clearly communicate technical and financial information
- Meet with members’ safety committees as needed; review committee policies and make recommendations for improvement
- Manage and is responsible for the WorkSafe Employer award criteria, and assist members in achieving a workplace culture of safety and productivity
- Analyze data to evaluate program success and modify programs to meet member needs for maximum effectiveness; work with Program Director to identify data source and analysis needs
- Identify trends in workplace injuries within membership, design curriculum and manage training program through multiple modes of learning to reach the members effectively and reduce measurable risk
- Use independent judgment to identify program resource needs based on exposure and claim trends; lead creation and maintenance of OSH member resources
- Provide policy review and recommendation for member organizations
- Develop and present customized trainings as needed at member locations and state conferences
- Identify issues to be presented to governing bodies and advisory groups for decisions of program offerings
- Participate in development of the loss prevention budget, including processing invoices for payment and monitoring monthly financial reports
- Develop, review and/or revise safety manual templates and other resources for member use to eliminate or reduce exposures
- Coordinate loss prevention content for all program-related communications, including monitoring the content of marketing materials and the website
- Work closely with claims staff to identify risks of individual members and overall loss prevention trends and exposures of the program
- Provide technical assistance and training to members of the Drug and Alcohol Consortium, including responding to member questions, facilitating vendor resources, and delivering regional, on-site, and virtual education for supervisors and Designated Employer Representatives (DER)
- Develop a working knowledge of the Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington as they relate to public entity loss prevention standards and training requirements
- Incumbent may travel to trainings and events most weeks; overnight stays generally will not exceed 40 nights per year.

Requirements:
- 5 years’ progressive responsibilities or experience in occupational safety & health, loss prevention or risk management including face-to-face contact and field inspections
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; experience may be substituted year-for-year for academic achievement
- Associate in Risk Management ARM or similar designation preferred
- Certified Loss Control Specialist (CLCS), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation preferred
- Must maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license in good standing
What you bring to the team:
- In-depth knowledge of loss control standards and industry best practices
- Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding workplace safety, DOSH & OSHA standards, and Accident Prevention Programs
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding drug and alcohol testing for employees subject to U.S. DOT and Drug-Free Workplace Act.
- Skilled in designing and delivering presentations to a variety of groups, including executive management
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, members, and other groups and individuals
- Ability to make effective decisions and to act independently in developing workplans, managing and coordinating assigned duties
- Skilled at leading and managing projects
- Knowledge of basic math, accounting, and finance practices
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 Office products and ability to learn and use a wide variety of proprietary software
- Ability to model the organization’s high standards of quality customer service to all internal and external customers; represent AWC in a positive professional manner, while using tact, discretion, and courtesy
