Position Description

The City of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) is looking for two dynamic interns to assist with climate and environmental justice initiatives. This role is ideal for a student eager to build professional skills at the intersection of communications, community engagement, and public policy while working alongside passionate leaders advancing equity and sustainability across the city!

OSE develops and implements citywide environmental policies and programs to build a sustainable, equitable, and carbon-neutral Seattle. Our work centers on frontline communities that have been most impacted by environmental and racial injustices. As a cross-departmental partner and policy innovator, we lead initiatives that ensure every Seattle resident can live in a clean and healthy environment.

As a Climate Justice Intern, you will help move this mission forward by contributing to high-impact engagement efforts. Responsibilities include supporting two advisory boards that shape the City’s climate justice agenda, coordinating youth- and Indigenous-led assemblies, and collaborating with Environmental Justice Fund grantees. This position also plays a key role in developing accessible public communications such as newsletters, blog content, flyers, and digital media. From staffing events to drafting communications, managing community bulletins, or capturing key decisions during meetings, this role offers the chance to be hands-on, creative, and connected to meaningful public service.
