About Work-Study Tutors/America Reads:

America Reads is a national literacy campaign and federal initiative started in 1996 by the Clinton Administration to address K-12 literacy challenges. The program enlists college students to work part-time as math and reading tutors with elementary, middle, and high school students. The Federal government pays 100% of tutor wages via the National Work Study Program and utilizes existing college programs to manage/oversee the implementation. Tutors work directly with elementary students to improve their reading and math proficiency skills.
