PHI 514: Determinants of Health - WIN 2026 Teaching Assistant (Student/ASE)

Position Summary: The School of Public Health MPH Common Core is seeking two Teaching Assistants (TAs) for PHI 514. Each position is 20 hours per week during the Winter 2026 quarter. Beginning with the academic year 2020-2021, the MPH program includes six courses, taken as a single cohort by all MPH degree students, in the first year of study. These TAs will support the teaching of 1 course, with anticipated course enrollment of approximately 130 students.
PHI 514: Determinants of Health Course Description
Many factors combine and interact to affect the health of individuals and communities. This course will describe and apply frameworks for understanding determinants of health at multiple levels and within different systems. Course material will emphasize individual- and family-level determinants, physical and social environments, population-level determinants, and systems dynamics. Students will learn how to apply theory and how to interpret and weigh evidence to identify and prioritize health determinants for public health research, practice, and policy.
Class Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:50pm
Specific Job Functions:
- Assist in course coordination and implementation
- Attend class sessions
- Actively engage with student during and outside of class
- Grade assignments
- Update and maintain course canvas site
- Help with course communication
- Request or acquire necessary equipment
- Prepare and maintain course records
- Other tasks, as necessary
Skills/Eligibility:
Required Qualifications: Minimum standing of current graduate student. Preference will be given to applicants in the School of Public Health. Successfully completed a similar course in the past.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with CANVAS; prior teaching assistant; previously completed PHI 514
