The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Environmental Public Health section is recruiting for a Senior Environmental and Occupational Epidemiologist (Epidemiologist 3). We’re looking for a skilled and motivated epidemiologist to lead critical Environmental Public Health (EPH) epidemiology initiatives. This senior-level position focuses on monitoring health outcomes of Oregonians associated with exposures to environmental and workplace hazards. This position serves as key personnel for EPH programs including the Environmental Public Health Tracking Program, Occupational Public Health, and Pesticide Exposure Safety & Tracking.
As a subject matter expert, you will plan, design, and lead complex epidemiological studies; oversee data analysis and interpretation; provide technical consultation; and engage internal and external partners in the design and implementation of epidemiologic programs and projects. You will mentor junior staff, coordinate the work of data analysts and fellows, and contribute to the development of data-informed policies and interventions that protect the health of Oregonians.
This role requires deep expertise in one or more subdisciplines of environmental and occupational epidemiology. You will represent OHA in legislative, regulatory, and media settings, and advise on state and federal environmental and occupational health policies, such as air quality standards and occupational safety rules.

- A Master’s degree in Community Public Health, Epidemiology, Research Analyst, or a closely related field AND four years of epidemiological, community health, or research analysis experience of which one year must have been in a supervising, lead worker, or project leadership role; OR
- A Bachelor’s degree in Community Public Health, Epidemiology, Research Analyst, or a closely related field AND five years of epidemiological, community health, or research analysis experience of which one year must have been in a supervising, lead worker, or project leadership role.

- Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology Expertise: Experience applying specialized knowledge in environmental or occupational epidemiology to the design and implementation of public health studies, programs, and policy development.
- Epidemiologic Surveillance: Skill in developing and managing systems to monitor environmental and occupational illnesses and injuries, including identifying individual, social, and structural risk factors for health outcomes.
- Advanced Epidemiologic Methods: Proficient in selecting and applying complex epidemiological, biostatistical, and demographic methods to investigate public health issues and generate evidence-based conclusions.
- Data Analysis and Statistical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise to manage, analyze, and interpret complex datasets with precision and attention to detail, ensuring accurate and reliable public health reporting and decision-making. Requires intermediate or higher proficiency in at least one statistical software application—preferably R; alternatively, SAS, Stata, or SPSS—including the ability to import, clean, describe, analyze, model, test, and visualize data for publication and decision-making.
- Collaborative Communication and Partnerships: Skilled in delivering clear and professional verbal communication to foster effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Experienced in engaging partners throughout the epidemiologic study process—from study design to interpretation and application of findings.
- Scientific Reporting: Experienced in translating complex epidemiologic data into clear, actionable, written technical reports and publications, with the ability to validate and defend data accuracy and conclusions.
- Training and Mentoring: Experience mentoring, training, or providing technical guidance to staff, partners, or students in epidemiologic methods, data access, and data visualization.
