Description:

The Environment Health Specialist supports Relay’s Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) efforts through focused work on incident response, injury reporting, safety training, and workers’ compensation administration. This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety and accountability across the organization by ensuring timely response to incidents, maintaining accurate safety training records, and facilitating communication between internal teams, medical providers, and insurance partners. The EHS Specialist will help coordinate safety inspections, track compliance requirements, and contribute to the organization’s overall safety and risk reduction goals.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1.    Incident Response and Investigation 
  • Conduct or assist with investigation or work-related injuries, vehicle accidents, and near miss incidents
  • Document and track findings and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Maintain EHS incident tracking system, ensuring accurate, up-to-date information
  • Support internal follow-up, including communication with supervisors, managers, and affected employees
  • Coordinate follow-up inspections as needed based on incident findings
  1.    Workers’ Compensation Support 
  • Assist with workers’ compensation claims filing, updates and documentation
  • Maintain communication with injured employees, supervisors, insurance representatives and medical providers
  • Monitor light-duty assignments and return-to-work timelines, escalating concerns to the Workplace Innovation Manager
  • Prepared summaries of claims status and coordinate quarterly claims review
  1.    Safety Training and Compliance Tracking 
  • Maintain and track records for required safety training across all departments
  • Support monthly safety training by tracking participation, gathering materials, and scheduling sessions
  • Assist with First Aid/CPR training and certification tracking
  • Input, organize and maintain training data in EHS software platform 
  1.    Safety Program Enhancement 
  • Participate in safety audits and inspections as needed
  • Provide administrative support for Safety Committee activities and reporting
  • Help update safety communication materials
  • Maintain inventory of safety equipment across sites
  • Assist in preparing reports for internal leadership and external partners

Skills/Eligibility:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health or a related science or business field OR equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in safety, workers’ compensation, or risk management preferred
  • CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire)
  • Valid Driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and/or fingerprinting as needed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, Adobe, Docusign, and Asana or other task management tools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in mission-driven, nonprofit, or social enterprise environments.
  • Experience working with a diverse employee population.
  • Familiarity with ADA requirements, EHS regulations, and procurement best practices.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or ASL preferred).
  • Experience supporting hybrid and field-based teams across multiple locations
