Description:

The Department of Environmental Services (ENV), Refuse Collection and Disposal Division, is hiring a Safety Specialist I. Located in Kapolei, this position assists the Administrative Specialist III in managing the division’s safety program, which includes preparing/conducting training, preparing statistics/reports, inspecting operations/facilities, enforcing safety practices and requirements, and investigating injuries/accidents. Adhering to applicable safety practices, rules, and procedures, you will be tasked to perform all duties safely and appropriately to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public.

There is one (1) additional vacancy with the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Administration Division.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field.


Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

One year of professional (post-bachelor’s degree, non-clerical) experience in industrial safety and accident prevention activities.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of: safety laws and other accepted standards applicable to industrial safety and accident prevention; industrial and construction accident hazards and methods of correction and prevention; common industrial safety devices and equipment; safety inspection principles, practices, and procedures; and safety education media, principles, and procedures. Additionally, such experience must have demonstrated the ability to: make safety inspections and detect unsafe conditions and practices; interpret and enforce pertinent safety laws, codes, rules, and regulations; investigate and determine the causes of accidents; and conduct safety education and instruction courses.
