The Department of Population Health Sciences in the School of Public Health at Georgia State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Epidemiology. The successful candidate will begin in Fall 2026 and develop and maintain an active and productive program of research and actively engage in collaborative work with other researchers in the field. Candidates should have a record of scholarly accomplishments, including a strong publication record and history of extramural research funding, or potential for success in these areas for candidates at the Assistant rank. Candidates should also have demonstrated success with graduate-level teaching and mentoring, or relevant experience demonstrating potential for success for candidates at the Assistant rank. Teaching assignments will depend on the expertise and interests of the candidate as well as departmental priorities. The successful candidate is expected to conduct outstanding research, teach epidemiology courses primarily to graduate students in Public Health (i.e., MPH and PhD students), mentor graduate students, and contribute to service initiatives in the department, university, and profession.

Skills/Eligibility:

Doctorate in Epidemiology or a related discipline with training in, or special emphasis on, advanced analytic skills in epidemiological methods.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience           

The Department welcomes applications from researchers across all fields related to epidemiology. The ideal candidate will hold a doctorate in Epidemiology or a related discipline with training in, or special emphasis on, advanced analytic skills in epidemiological methods. Candidates should possess a strong methodological background, as well as expertise in epidemiologic methods and a strong commitment to community engagement and partnership with organizations and entities at the community, local, state, national, or international level. We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in research methodologies and approaches including, but not limited to cohort studies, community-based epidemiology and prevention, pharmacoepidemiology, disease surveillance, outcomes research, and implementation research.

 

Candidates should be able to establish an independent research program in research. Candidates with research expertise in topics such as epidemiology of cancer, chronic diseases, or infectious diseases, women’s health, reproductive health epidemiology, maternal and child health, social and behavioral epidemiology, and advanced epidemiologic and surveillance methods are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition, candidates may contribute their expertise to collaborative research in well-established areas of research strength within the Department of Population Health Sciences and the School of Public Health, including chronic and infectious disease epidemiology, tobacco epidemiology, disease modeling, and social epidemiology.

 

Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidates must also demonstrate a willingness and ability to contribute to the University and the profession through service activities.
