EHS Supervisor - Stella Jones (Job)
Description:
The Environmental, Health & Safety Supervisor at Stella-Jones in Eugene plays a primary role in leading all environmental compliance, stewardship, and sustainability efforts at the facility. This position ensures strict adherence to environmental regulations governing wood treatment operations, with secondary responsibility for supporting health and safety programs. This role is central to Stella-Jones’ commitment to environmental excellence and responsible operations.
Key Environmental Responsibilities (Primary Focus)

Environmental Compliance & Inspections:
Conduct frequent site inspections to ensure full compliance with federal, state (DEQ), and local environmental regulations. -
Environmental Auditing:
Lead environmental audits, identify gaps, recommend corrective actions, and drive continuous environmental improvement. -
Training & Awareness:
Develop, deliver, and maintain environmental training programs that equip employees with a strong understanding of compliance expectations and site procedures. -
Permitting & Reporting:
Manage all environmental permits (air, stormwater, hazardous waste, wastewater, SPCC, etc.), including submissions, renewals, modifications, and regulatory reporting. -
Documentation & Recordkeeping:
Maintain precise environmental records such as emissions reporting, waste profiles and manifests, stormwater sampling data, discharge monitoring, and other compliance logs. -
Environmental Programs Implementation:
Oversee and continuously improve plant environmental programs tailored to wood treatment operations, including hazardous waste, chemical storage, stormwater BMPs, and spill response. -
Incident Response & Investigation:
Lead investigations of environmental spills, releases, or compliance concerns and ensure corrective actions are completed. -
Cross-Functional Guidance:
Provide direction to supervisors and employees regarding environmental practices, regulatory expectations, and internal standards. -
Company Initiatives & Regulatory Monitoring:
Participate in corporate environmental initiatives and stay current with evolving environmental regulations and industry best practices.
Key Health & Safety Responsibilities (Secondary Focus)

Conduct health and safety facility inspections, audits, and required training.

Support implementation of health and safety policies, programs, and procedures.

Perform accident and incident investigations involving employee safety.

Provide guidance to supervisors and employees regarding OSHA requirements.

Maintain accurate safety reporting and regulatory recordkeeping.

Monitor OSHA updates and assist with policy modifications.

Participate in occasional travel for corporate EHS training or meetings.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills/Eligibility:
Required
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

Five (5)+ years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience, with a strong emphasis on environmental compliance.

Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Working knowledge of Oregon DEQ, EPA regulations, hazardous waste requirements (RCRA), stormwater permitting, SPCC, and/or air permitting.

Knowledge of OSHA 1910 General Industry and Oregon OSHA regulations.

Experience conducting environmental or safety incident investigations and root cause analysis.

Proven ability to develop and deliver environmental or safety training.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and accuracy in managing environmental documentation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across teams.
Preferred
-
Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, OHST, or HAZWOPER 40-hour.

Experience with ISO 14001 (strong plus) or ISO 45001.

Background in wood treating, chemicals, lumber, or other heavy industrial operations.

DOT hazardous materials shipping experience or waste manifesting knowledge.

Familiarity with continuous improvement, BBS programs, or Lean/Six Sigma initiatives.

First Aid/CPR and/or Train-the-Trainer certifications.
