Description:

The Environmental Health & Safety Analyst at Stella-Jones is designed to help us unlock the full potential of our electronic safety management system and elevate how we use data to protect our people. This position will focus on advanced analytics, AI-assisted modeling, and system optimization, with a goal of turning data into actionable insight while ensuring the EH&S digital tools behind those insights are reliable, efficient, and user-friendly. Working closely with the VP of EH&S, Operations, IT, and the Operational Innovation & Excellence Center (OIEC), this position will help shape how environmental and safety information is collected, visualized, and used to drive continuous improvement across all facilities.

 

This is a newly created role and will be based at either our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania or Lenexa, Kansas office with a hybrid work schedule. The role will also involve some travel (up to 25%) to various plant and office locations in the United States and Canada. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Data Analytics & AI Modeling

  • Analyze large EH&S datasets to identify trends, correlations, and emerging risks.
  • Develop and deploy advanced analytics and machine-learning models (e.g., predictive incident analysis, near-miss risk modeling).
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for operations and leadership through dashboards and visualizations.
  • Support leadership with monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc reporting that connects environmental and safety metrics to operational outcomes.

System Management & Reporting Design

  • Serve as a key administrator and power user for the corporate EH&S database (Origami Risk).
  • Manage configuration, permissions, and data integrity in partnership with IT and site EH&S users.
  • Design and build standardized reporting templates, dashboards, and workflows that enhance usability and alignment across sites.
  • Review and optimize data collection forms, process flows, and system interfaces to improve reporting consistency and user experience.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to EH&S and operations teams on system functionality, reporting tools, and data-driven decision-making.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Operations and OIEC teams to identify improvement opportunities based on data insights.
  • Support investigations and root-cause analyses with data-driven findings and trend analysis.
  • Contribute to the development of key performance indicators and digital governance processes.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement in how Stella-Jones measures and manages safety performance.

Skills/Eligibility:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or EH&S systems management within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with electronic EH&S database management systems (e.g., Origami, Intelex, Cority, Enablon, or similar).
  • Proven ability to develop dashboards and predictive models using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Python, R, or SQL.

 

Skills & Attributes

  • Deep analytical mindset with a practical understanding of EH&S data, metrics, and leading indicators.
  • Strong technical skills in data management, visualization, and model development.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their application in predictive safety analytics.
  • Ability to manage multiple system configurations and reporting requirements with precision and follow-through.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—able to connect data insights to operational realities.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and curiosity to continually improve systems and processes.
  • English fluency is required. Additional ability to write and speak in French is a plus.
