Summary

The Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program is seeking to fill one full-time Public Health Nurse/Nurse Case Manager. Public Health Nurse (PHN) provides case management services to patients with active or latent disease, care coordination, referral, and follow-up, contact investigation, medication management, ongoing physical and psychosocial assessment to individuals and families. This PHN will provide information to patients, community members and other healthcare providers regarding TB. The PHN may also participate in research projects that seek to improve the health and treatment of TB patients.

Job Duties

  • Provide comprehensive nurse case management to active and latent TB cases.  
  • Conduct hospital/home visits to assess the client’s living situation and provide health education about tuberculosis and disease transmission, isolation, and TB treatment plan.   
  • Coordinate with Health Outreach Aide for medication management via Directly Observed Therapy (DOT).
  • Work closely with Disease Research Intervention Specialist (DRIS) to conduct contact investigation and coordinate with community providers to screen and evaluate high risk contacts.
  • Monitor and support patients in adhering to their medication regimens and treatment progress.
  • Provide counseling and support to address patient concerns, stigma, and other psychosocial factors that may affect treatment outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure care coordination, treatment completion for all TB cases and provide patient centered care.
  • Documentation requires electronic charting: EPIC and TREATS.   
  • Provide support services to the client that links/refers, to other Department staff and community providers/partners, while assuring access and continuity of care.
  • Provide training, orientation and education to staff, clients, students and the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Work Schedule: This Special Duty Assignment/Term-Limited Temporary, 1.0 FTE with an anticipated term of one year with possibility of extension. This position is designated as hourly/non-exempt under the regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Staff must receive prior approval from their supervisor before working any necessary overtime hours to meet their position responsibilities. Typical work schedule varies between Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and may work outside of the typical schedule to meet operational needs.


Work Location: The TB Clinic, which is located at Harborview Medical Center in Downtown Seattle. This position is also a member of a state-wide strike team and may be dispatched to other Counties across the state with short notice to provide TB support services.

Skills/Eligibility:

  • Washington State Registered Nurse License in good standing.
  • Washington State license as a Registered Nurse (in good standing) and a bachelor’s degree in nursing science or a graduate level nursing degree of MSN, DNP or PhD from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Washington State Drivers’ License
  • Current BLS-CPR for Healthcare Providers
  • Successful completion of background check and pre-employment physical.
