Overview
This internship will be part of a dynamic research lab working to test the effectiveness of lifestyle, behavioral, and nutritional education interventions on various clinical and quality of life outcomes in cancer survivors.
The Research Interns will support a health-focused research study by managing the setup and deployment of Fitbit devices, Fitbit apps, and Aria scales for study participants. This position offers hands-on experience with health technology, and research processes and supports the research and clinical programs of Dr. Heather Greenlee. This quarterly internship will be performed in person at Fred Hutch for a minimum of 9 hrs per week. Due to the training involved, the lab asks that applicants commit to a one-year internship (4 quarters), to be renewed quarterly.
Responsibilities:
Device setup & configuration:
· Inventory and track study devices across the lifetime of the study.
· Prepare, configure, and test digital data collection tools and devices to ensure proper functionality for study participants.
· Assist in syncing devices with participant accounts, troubleshooting as needed.
· Track and document issues and resolutions to streamline the setup process for future interns and studies.
Data quality assurance:
· Regularly verify that data is collected and captured correctly.
· Track, flag, and resolve data discrepancies with the research team.
Biospecimen storage and organization:
· Properly handle, transfer/courier, store, and track biological specimens (e.g., dried blood spot).
· Verify and record storage location in the proper format using standard platforms.
Other tasks:
· Prepare and build forms, reports, and other data management tools in REDCap.
· Additional tasks and duties to be assigned as needed
Additional Details:Skills/Eligibility:
Required qualifications:
Applicants should be a current college (undergraduate or graduate) student with experience in human biology and technology with an interest in clinical outcomes in cancer populations, cancer epidemiology, behavioral interventions for cancer prevention, and/or nutrition.
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program (undergraduate or graduate) to receive credit
· Able to travel to and work on site at the Fred Hutch South Lake Union campus
Preferred qualifications:
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Fluent in spoken and written Spanish
· Self-directed and able to work without supervision
· Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to troubleshoot tech issues
· Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
· Basic knowledge of wearable technology and mobile app setup (prior experience with Fitbit and/or ActiGraph devices a plus)
· Knowledge of REDCap
· Reliable internet connection and access
