PHI 515 Implementing Public Health Interventions (4 credits)

Position Summary:The School of Public Health MPH Common Core is seeking two Teaching Assistants for PHI 515. Each position is 20 hours per week during the 2026 spring quarter. The MPH Core program includes six courses, taken as a single cohort by all MPH degree students, in the first year of study. These TAs will support the teaching of 1 course, with anticipated course enrollment of approximately 130 students.

Course Description: In this course, students will learn about the role of theory, evidence, community engagement, and ethics in health promotion intervention design, implementation, and evaluation. The course begins with a module focused on identifying population needs, assets, and capacities in order to inform intervention design. The second module focuses on the implementation of interventions and intervention strategies across multiple levels of the socio-ecological framework. The third module focuses on how to monitor intervention implementation and evaluate intervention outcomes. Instructors will use a combination of lecture and small group work, with assignments such as an in-class oral presentation and an intervention project paper. Class schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30am – 12:20pm

Job Functions:

  • Assist in course preparation, coordination and implementation
  • Attend class sessions
  • Present course material
  • Facilitate class discussions and active learning activities
  • Grade assignments
  • Update and maintain course canvas site
  • Prepare and maintain course records (e.g. extension requests)
  • Triage and respond to student inquiries
  • Hold office hours to meet with students
  • Attend weekly coordination meeting with instructor team
  • Other tasks, as necessary

Skills/Eligibility:

Required Qualifications: Minimum standing of current graduate student. Preference will be given to applicants in the School of Public Health. Experience designing, implementing and/or evaluating health promotion interventions. 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Canvas; prior experience as teaching assistant. Successful completion of coursework in health promotion (PHI 515 or similar).  

Salary: Half-time (50% FTE) monthly rates range from $3,283 to $3,621, commensurate with academic eligibility.  Benefits and eligibility information available here.
