Description:
Essential Functions
- Lead and enforce the company’s safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and any applicable client requirements.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
- Coordinate and conduct site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions for all personnel.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters with site management, subcontractors, and regulatory representatives.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, ensuring proper reporting and implementation of corrective actions.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and best safety practices.
- Support project teams in the development of Work Plans, Safety Submittals, and Risk Management Plans.
- Maintain all required safety documentation, reports, and logs, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Assist in pre-task planning to proactively address safety concerns before work begins.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with project safety requirements and conduct regular safety performance evaluations.
Skills/Eligibility:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of safety experience in heavy civil construction, preferably on self-performed projects.
- Prior experience working with federal, state, or local safety regulations, with USACE experience considered a plus.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (OSHA 500 preferred).
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
- EM 385-1-1 Certification, have or be willing to obtain.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar certification is a plus.
- Strong ability to lead, educate, and influence teams regarding workplace safety.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and make critical decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and safety reporting software.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience managing safety for bridge, dam, marine, water/wastewater, or heavy infrastructure projects.
- Prior work experience in self-performing construction environments where contractors handle excavation, concrete work, structural steel, and other trade-specific scopes.
- Familiarity with Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs and techniques.
- Understanding of environmental and industrial hygiene considerations in construction safety.
