Overview
Each year, flok hosts two family camps open to individuals of all ages with Classical HCU, MSUD, Organic Acidemias, PKU, Tyrosinemia, and Urea Cycle Disorders, as well as their family, friends, and allies. Campers enjoy three days of traditional camp activities, crafts, education sessions, and meals for all protein allowances. From water sports to field games, and silent discos to community fairs—there’s something for everyone at Family Camp!  

flok is accepting proposals for the Camp Chef position in Oregon for the 2026 program year.  The Chef will work closely with our Camp Director and the camp facility’s Food Service Manager. 
 
Family Camp West in Antelope, Oregon at Washington Family Ranch is June 4-7, 2026
The Camp Chef is welcome to arrive as early as Tuesday, June 2 at 12pm Pacific. Arrival by Tuesday may be required to meet program needs. Approximately 90 campers with low-protein dietary needs are expected to attend. 

 

Position Description:
The Low-Protein Camp Chef will be responsible for the onsite execution of all low-protein food and beverage needs for camp. This includes cooking and overseeing the low-protein meals served while collaborating closely with the facility food service manager to ensure seamless integration with the *standard camp meal program. 

 

Primary Work Activities:
  • Oversee all onsite low-protein kitchen and meal service operations* 
  • Supervise assistant low-pro cooks
  • Maintain formula station and snack table supply
  • Support post-camp clean-up in kitchen facility and provide feedback to flok Camp Director

     
*The flok Camp Director will assist with cooking assistant recruitment and identify one or more metabolic dietitians to answer camper nutrition questions during the event. 

 

*Camp Chef is only responsible for cooking low-protein meals and is not responsible for preparing the meals for campers with unrestricted diets

 

Skills/Eligibility:

Qualifications:
  • Knowledgeable in low-protein cooking for individuals with inherited metabolic conditions 
  • Trained in food preparation safety 
  • Preferred: Metabolic Dietician/RD; previous experience cooking at a camp, conference, or formal event for the inherited metabolic condition community 
 

 

Travel, Housing, and Expenses:
  • Housing and meals will be provided to the chef by flok throughout the duration of the low-protein chef’s time at the camp facility 
  • flok will provide reimbursement for the chef’s travel expenses to and from camp
