Fire and Security Patrol -- Tacoma Shipyard - Trident Seafoods (Job)
Description:
Provides safety and security of moored vessels and the facility. They are responsible for continuously observing hot work activity for the detection of, and response to, fires before, during, and after hot work operations both on in port vessels and shoreside. The role will also be required to monitor the premises, prevent unauthorized access, respond to incidents, and maintain a safe working environment for employees and visitors.
Essential Functions: (Responsibilities, Tasks, Supervisory Needs)
- Conducts regular patrols of the facility and vessels to observe and report on conditions supporting Hot Work program; enforces company security policies and procedures to prevent theft, vandalism, or other security related incidents.
- Responds to incidents, disturbances, medical emergencies, or incident alarms, and notifies law enforcement or emergency services and site leadership.
- Walks or drives throughout the site to check for unsafe conditions, hazards, broken locks, or unauthorized intruders.
- Greets guests and providing directions while maintaining a professional security presence.
- Verifies identification and credentials of personnel entering the premises; restricts access of unauthorized personnel, and monitors security cameras, alarms, and access control systems to detect and respond to any suspicious activities or safety hazards promptly.
- Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented; provide environmental support (basic monitoring, water sampling, meter readings, clean-up).
- Operates forklift or vehicles supporting the 22-acre facilities to mitigate safety and environmental concerns and/or issues.
- Communicates and reviews completed daily hot work activities with vessel Night Watch. Follows conditions and requirements specified on the Marine Chemist Certificate and Shipyard Competent Person Hot Work Permit.
- Develops detailed activities reports pertaining to shift activities (incidents, accidents, and observations), communicate via written and verbal communication with key stakeholders.
Skills/Eligibility:
Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications)
- HS Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Education & Experiences:
- Current CPR/First Aid certificate or ability to obtain CPR certification within 30 days of employment
- Ability to be certified to operate a forklift within 30 days of employment
- Security guard experience preferred.
- Washington State Unarmed Security Certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Able to work as a team member and clearly communicate to individuals and large groups.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays or other shifts as required.
- Access to reliable access to transportation.
- Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, and perform patrol duties for extended periods.
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor, site leadership, and other employees of the organization.
- Required to develop and distribute documentation which is used for compliance with local, state, and federal environment, health and safety regulatory agencies.
- Handling and using security equipment, such as radios (if applicable) may require physical strength and dexterity.
